Family has always been the foundation of who I am. My story begins with my parents, who first met as kids in Galveston, Texas. Life took them in different directions for a while, but after my father served five years in the military, he returned home, and the two of them wed. Not long after, they began building a family together.
My brother Robert was the first to arrive, and three years later, my brother Marlon joined the family. My mother had always longed for a little girl, and she often shared how she prayed almost daily for a daughter. Year after year, she waited, holding onto that hope and faith.
Six years later, God answered her prayers—abundantly. Not only did He bless her with a daughter, but with two. To her surprise, she didn’t learn she was carrying twins until just two months before delivery. She always said that God gave her a double blessing because of her persistence in prayer and her unwavering desire to nurture a daughter.
I was born 55 minutes before my twin sister, and from the start we shared everything. We were always together, so much so that the few times we weren’t, we both would end up sick. She is not only my twin but also my best friend—and now my business partner. I truly cannot imagine my life without her, or without the closeness of my entire family.
As the years passed, our family grew. Out of all my siblings, I had the first baby 23 years ago. Today, I’m blessed with two sons who are a little over 20 years apart—Javen, my oldest, and Maxen, my youngest who is just 2 years old. Adding to the joy, I also have twin granddaughters who are 2 years old as well (yes, twins seem to run strong in our family—smile!).
Between my siblings and me, we now have five nieces and two nephews. So when we all come together—which is several times a year because we truly cherish family and each other—it’s nothing short of a celebration. Laughter fills the room, stories are shared, and the love between us keeps growing stronger.
For me, family isn’t just about blood—it’s about legacy, love, and togetherness. It’s about showing up for each other, celebrating one another, and holding tight to the bond God has blessed us with.
Looking back, I see how deeply faith and family are intertwined in my life. My mother’s prayers are a reminder that God not only hears us, but He answers in ways that exceed our expectations. Just as she prayed me and my twin sister into this world, I now see God’s hand in the blessings of my children, my grandchildren, and the strong bond we all share. Our family is living proof that when we commit our desires to God and trust His will, He blesses us with more than we could ever ask or imagine.
Our family’s story is one of love, patience, and answered prayers. And I carry that legacy with me every day, knowing that the foundation laid by my parents’ faith and commitment to one another shaped the woman I am today.
